One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Every reader needs to know what he or she prefers, what kind of writing stimulates thinking and visuals and experience and imagination. I have always been partial to American writers from The South, Russian writers, and some writers south of the border like Gabriel Garcia Marquez(Mexico) and Isabel Allende(Argentina). The South American writers write in a floral descriptive style and deal with magic, fantasy, and spirituality, while  attaching insightful meaning to their plots and characters’ experiences.  One Hundred Years of Solitude is the perfect example of such writing.  Hasn’t everyone dreamed of isolating oneself from the outside world? I love the quotes, ” It’s enough for me to be sure that you and I exist at this moment;” “The secret of a good old age is simply an honorable pact with solitude.” I lose myself in this book. Or should I say, I find myself in this book.
