Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

The month of May is coming to a close so this is my last classic book to catalogue for a while. The month of June will deal with more contemporary favorites. It is fitting that it is the end of the month and I remark on a dark, gothic story which although not uplifting, is haunting enough to reread from time to time. Wuthering Heights challenged Victorian ways and dealt with hypocrisy, social classes and inequalities. It takes on the topic of hate and examines its delusions and  intensities. Painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti  said that it ” is a fiend of a book…an incredible monster…. The action is laid in hell,- only it seems places and people have English names there.” Simply, unforgettable.
